ALTERNATIVE THERAPIES WITH KIM MENDEZ

Reflexology
Reflexology is a therapy that works on the feet, using pressure points which can diagnose a patient’s health. Through these reflexes, pain and congestion can be relieved in the various organs of the body, particularly the glandular and endocrine systems.

Acupuncture
Acupuncture through observation of tongue, pulse and careful questioning, can diagnose the patient's health. Acupuncture aims to harmonise the body through a network of meridian lines. Manifestations of ill-health arise through an imbalance of these channels, and with the knowledge and correct use of needles on acupuncture points, balance can be restored.

Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy uses essential oils, combined specifically for the individual, and can greatly reduce stress and everyday anxieties.

Chinese Herbal Medicine
Chinese Herbal Medicine combines Chinese Herbs to help balance the patient's internal health.

Iridology
Iridology is a diagnostic science in which the study of markings in specific areas of the iris is used to indicate dysfunction in corresponding organs of the body. Iridology is a non-invasive technique that supplies information not clearly delineated by other means regarding the condition of the body. Based on this information, Kim can make recommendations for changes in diet or lifestyle as a preventative approach. Kim uses this therapy as an adjunct to the other treatments.

Kim’s early career started as a professional ballet dancer, performing with many international artists such as Margot Fonteyn and Nureyev. An early interest and study in assisting dancers to maintain all round health, i.e. posture, freedom from injury, good diet and optimum energy, led her to seek and use this knowledge and later incorporate it into her own practice of complementary medicine.

Over the last 27 years in her own practice she has studied and treated patients using remedial massage, aromatherapy, reflexology and traditional Chinese medicine.

Although she is a full-time therapist Kim still performs as an actress with the Royal Ballet. Regular classes are too short to give dancers individual information about posture and injury correction – Kim is in the unique position of being able to observe the dancer in class and providing treatment and advice based on this.

Herbal remedies are a useful nutritional aid and Kim uses the Chinese herbs to help patients with gynaecological or menopausal complaints with considerable success. Kim's experience of acupuncture has led to the development of Cosmetic Acupuncture, which tones the facial muscles, helping to improve and firm the face.
