Sheila's Jazz class is a technical mix of lyrical and dynamic jazz styles. All elementary and intermediate students must have some ballet training.

These classes place an emphasis on correct use of muscles, performanceand enjoyment. Her classes focus on correct technique, so it is helpfulto have some ballet training, especially for intermediate levelclasses.

Although students are expected to work hard, she also tries tocreate an atmosphere of fun and mutual support between everyone in theclass. For the 6pm classes, ballet is helpful but not essential.

SHEILA SANGSTER

Sheila Sangster has been teaching jazz at Pineapple since 1991.

She began her dance training in Canada at the age of 22. This gives her a unique understanding of the adult body and the difficulties that arise in obtaining flexibility and strength for those who did not begin dance training as a child.

Her training includes jazz (theatre, Matt Mattox , Luiji), contemporary (Graham and Cunningham), and Pilates. The different styles are an influence in her warm-up but she has developed her own style of choreography, which varies from technical lyrical, to fast and funky.

Her classes focus on correct technique, so it is helpful to have some ballet training, especially for intermediate level classes. Although students are expected to work hard, she also tries to create an atmosphere of fun and mutual support between everyone in the class.

To join in a class, you only need be ready 10 minutes before the classstarts. If you have Pineapple membership, you do not need to pay atreception.
