TAP AND FIRST DANCE WITH DEREK HARTLEY

Derek has possibly the longest career in dance teaching these days, certainly at Pineapple where he began in 1979, the year it opened!

Derek is well known and respected for his Tap Dance teaching and choreography and that aspect has taken him to many countries and over the UK in general.

His style is based on a Black rhythm style and he has added enhancements to arrive at a unique style of his own that dancers really appreciate. He uses Hollywood movie themes and dances, major show numbers from countless classic shows, modern music and steps from various musical perspectives 

FIRST DANCE 

His long experience has also included work on other levels with those members of Pineapple who require FIRST DANCE pieces for special occasions. To date, he has set two whole Tap routines for Bride and Groom; a Chorus Line first entrance for the Bride and Groom; another Chorus Line set up for 10 Bridesmaids; a dance for Groom and Father...as two Astaire figures, and many more lessons leading upto First Dance.

Derek can choreograph in any dance style and has many years experience as a comptetitive Ballroom and Latin dancer. This gives him ideal insight for working with couples, and together with his teaching style and experience, he is sympathetic to all levels and ages of students in his care.

DEREK HARTLEY

Derek Hartley, MA (Performing Arts), is a professional dancer/choreographer with over twenty-two years experience and has earned a glowing reputation for innovation and design – as reflected in his work for film, television, theatre, cabaret, festivals and dance academies in more than a dozen countries throughout the world.

As a choregrapher Derek has assembled countless non Tap pieces for professional shows including West End theatre, cabaret, television, dance companies and many festivals. He has worked with famous avant garde performance artists, such as Sam Taylor-Wood, film maker and completed his latest London show in November 2010. Derek has choreographed and featured in many commercials..
