Locking (Campbellocking)
Benjamin’s journey with dance began in 1999. Immersing himself in the dance of Campbellocking (a.k.a. Locking), he learnt closely with many of the pioneering elders of the dance.
He is the artistic director of The Locksmiths which he founded in 2015. Their performances have included Breakin' Convention '16, '17, ’18, ’19 & ’23 at Sadler Wells Theatre, London, Love Supreme, Pay The Cost To Be The Boss, Paris, Back 2 The Lab, RedBull ‘Dance Your Style’, Jazz Arts ReWired, FUNK: A Music Revolution tour.
In 2018 he was commissioned by Breakin’ Convention to create and perform a collaborative work with a live orchestra at Sadler’s Wells with composition by Jason Yarde, for the 15th anniversary of Breakin’ Convention & Jazz Re:freshed.
Other highlights include: London 2012 Olympic opening ceremony, Juste Debout London Locking 2v2 winner (2018), Choreography and dancer on Pee Wee Ellis’s tour; FUNK: A Music Revolution (2020), Performer in Our Labyrinth, Lee Mingwei, Tate Modern (2022).
