by Pineapple Dance

Mark James (known as Marky J) has worked in the entertainment industry since the 1990's.
After graduating from the Bristol Old Vic in 1997, Marky J went on to appear in many popular UK TV shows, and has even appeared as a Dalek in BBC’s Doctor Who, and “It’s a Sin”.

He has performed in many theatre productions, radio plays and audio books. During his varied career, Marky J has also had recording contracts with some of the biggest UK based record labels and has performed all over the UK as a solo and supporting artist. It is this passion for music and dance that led him to Pineapple in 1998.

Marky J specialises in getting everyone dancing together in just one hour, regardless of their dancing level. Whether you're a first-timer or a seasoned professional, his teaching style makes routines easy to pick-up, accessible and fun. With a relaxed, beginner-friendly approach, Marky J believes repetition is the key to success.

Class starts with a 20 minute warm up, designed to increase fitness levels, and develop suppleness, strength and stamina, through a mixture of classic stretching techniques with Pilates, yoga and core abdominal strength.

The routine is a step-by-step master class where all learners are shown the choreography in simple digestible sections, building up as you go along.

After everyone is up to speed, he turns down the lights, turns up the beats and you dance the entire routine to the latest R&B chart releases from the UK and US charts. Class ends with a turbo charge as you 'push the tempo' and dance to the latest club remixes.
